Last Saturday, on November 21st, I had made a late afternoon appointment at the salon with Ashley in Stockton. Baby stayed home with Jeff. My appointment would be a few hours, and once I was done there I wanted to come home straight away because it was growing dark and it's quite a drive from home.
Once in town, I pulled into our Starbucks drive-thru where I waited for my order momentarily. As I had had nothing to eat all day, I had planned to drive to Chipotle first to grab some food before going home. I reached for my phone to text Jeff that I was in town but would do what I just mentioned before heading home. However, Jeff had sent me a message saying that Baby was walking! I assumed he meant that he was taking an even longer number of steps before quitting and dropping to the ground as we had observed. Reading the message made me miss my little darling and I decided to stop to pick him up so that he could come with me.
I walked in through the door excited to see my little babe. Jeff informed me that he had been fussy since waking from his nap. I, of course, wanted to see Baby walking, so we set him down and walk he did. He was excited because he was scared, so as he walked he clutched his little hands to his chest, smiled and giddily cried in excitement as if what he were doing were a daring and dangerous feat.
Sure, he was a bit wobbly, but my little boy was finally walking on his own. And he's been walking ever since. It was 2-3 days where he still felt insecure and felt the need to clutch his hands or an object to his chest which seemed to help him feel a greater sense of balance. I saw him with or mini dust pan and broom or a kitchen tool or toy and Jeff said he also took a pair of screw drivers away from him on Saturday when he had first begun to walk.
It's been about five days now and Baby no longer feels the need to clutch his chest. He's a little wobbly, still, but growing more confident with each passing day. My little babe is growing too fast for me!
